Shell and Core: Architecture and Light Together
Considering the concepts of “shell” and “core” in the architectural structure of the İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, LAMP 83 developed lighting systems tailored to the needs of this structure. LAMP 83 fixtures, reaching every point from the challenging corners to the high ceilings of the museum, illuminated the space in the most ideal way with the patterned rail system, highlighting the exhibited artworks. Aydın Akar and Uygar Sakarya, lighting designers from Ukon Lighting, shared their special work on the lighting of the project with the following words:
“There were two key points in this project. The challenging aspect was the ‘shell’ area outside, which was fixed, and the need to demolish what was inside. The interior was to be reinforced and turned into a reinforced concrete structure. Therefore, the construction process took a long time. Our architecture was difficult. The shell’s challenging factors required special solutions for displaying the artworks. The rail system we developed with LAMP 83 reached the architecture through a cross-pattern system, entering from the gaps and directly illuminating the artworks while also allowing the building to feel airy and providing beautiful visual aesthetics architecturally.”
With this project, LAMP 83, offering flexible lighting solutions in challenging spaces, reshaped art spaces and once again proved its success in the lighting industry.
